Prevalence, characteristics, and impact of pain during the postpartum period

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the prevalence of pain in puerperal women, describe characteristics and its impacts on performance daily life activities, evaluate satisfaction with received analgesia. Method: Cross-sectional study which included women who had given birth. These were evaluated within 72 hours postpartum a public teaching hospital São Paulo city. Obstetric clinical data evaluated, as well presence impact activities. Results: A total 128 participated this study. The was 36.7% during interview 54.6% previous 24 hours. main site abdominal region (64.7%) intensity moderate to 48.9% intermittent frequency 58% cases. There significant association between type delivery (cesarean; p=0.030). Not being able provide care newborn, requiring going different unit, increased perception (p=0.038). capacity walking, eating, sleeping, taking baby, evacuating, breathing deeply, breastfeeding, sitting verified. Conclusion: Pain frequent period significantly affected mothers’ indicating need for improving management puerperium.
